Artist Statement

My work often evolves and develops from its original thought, sometimes even abandoned, operating in a meditative flow. This freedom of creativity and expression provides an outlet for sympathetic magic and purpose influenced by pop-culture-meets-pre-historic and the greats of humankind.

In my art, I aim to capture and convey an emotion, expression, and feeling in each piece, with functionality at the forefront of that idea. My work ranges in mediums, but the way all the elements are harmonious in clay resonates with me the most. The unspoken communication needed between the clay and its user solely developed over time, and failure that cannot be faked.

Artist Bio

Angel Ryan Estrada was born on January 1, 1993, in Poughkeepsie, New York. Attending Dutchess Community College for a visual arts degree in 2012, he began to build his foundation in the arts. He casually chose ceramics as a studio elective, not realizing his world would be forever changed.

Earning his Visual Arts Associates in 2015 with a focus on ceramics led him to a network of local artists and community clay studios in the area. Renamed Fallkill Creative Works, here is where he learned the skills to operate a clay studio and began teaching with the nonprofit, starting with community clay day to growing and creating the youth program workshop series and beginner and intermediate clay classes. As well as various other workshops and courses through Kingston Ceramics.

In 2016 he spawned his creative brand, Estrada Design. Through this, Angel releases limited-edition capsules and collaborations ranging in products from clothing and accessories to housewares and sculptures. Accompanied by pop-up events and art shows fueled by his DIY ethos and production mentality to create memorable experiences and events for his community.

In 2021 Angel moved to New Mexico to further pursue his education and passion for art. He is studying towards an art education degree and establishing himself in the community at The University of New Mexico.
